Step Into Sport Conference November 2006
This year the Step Into Sport Conference was split into two Conferences to enable more young leaders to access the programme. The North Conference took place on Monday 20th November 2006 at Worksop College and North Nott’s Community and the South Conference at Trent Bridge Cricket Ground and Rushcliffe Arena, on Wednesday 22nd November 2006. The events saw over 250 young leaders attending from all 9 School Sports Partnerships.
What was on offer?
The Conference offered the young leaders the opportunity to attend two workshops throughout the day from a choice of Multi Skills, Dance, Media and Marketing, Playground Games, Sportsability, Introduction to Life guarding and Teambuilding to name just a few. The leaders also received speeches from Sue Smith (England Women’s footballer) and Nicola Jenner (Young Leader of the Year) at the North Conference and Curtis Xavier (City of Nottingham Basketball Club) and Grace Carter (Young Leader) at the South Conference, This aimed to give them an insight into the benefits and realities of volunteering and inspire them for their future volunteering.
The students who attended the Conferences received Step Into Sport t-shirts, certificates of attendance, whistles, a voucher for a free training course and log books to assist them with their future volunteer work and training.
What next?
The leaders now have 1 year to complete a community based placement and work towards their Step Into Sport Awards (Bronze = 50 hours, Silver= 100 hours, Gold = 200 hours).
