Get Active continues at Idlewells
After the success of the Get Active promotion at Idlewells last year, the centre is pleased to be able to continue the campaign!
They are inviting members of any local sports clubs to come back into the centre to promote their sport. Any club can be involved from rugby to line dancing, chess and netball; all sports, all activities and all age ranges are welcome.
To grow the campaign from last year they would like to ensure that activities held in centre are fun and will draw shoppers to keep coming back to have a look, perhaps through displays alongside demonstrations or through challenging shoppers to have a go.
This campaign proved very beneficial to both the centre and clubs involved last year by raising awareness of the sport on offer in Sutton In Ashfield, encouraging club membership and encouraging shoppers to get involved and it is hoped this continues throughout 2010.
Feedback from last year:
Ashfield Junior Hockey Team
“Thank you for letting us publicise our club at Idlewells, we had a great day, spoke to many families and have gained over 30 new members from our day in centre, a much greater success than we had thought we would achieve. Thank you very much”.
Scuba Diving Club
“I'm pleased to tell you that our club stand at the Idlewells on Saturday was a great success! Not only were we hoping to raise the profile of our club in the local area we were also rattling tins for the RNLI. We had quite a lot of interest in the club and handed out a fair amount of info to the public. With regards to the RNLI, we raised £326 on the day, which was way above what we expected and goes to show that the public are aware of what a great job these guys do! Many thanks for the opportunity to stand in the centre and it would be good if we could repeat this at a later date.”.
If you would like to come into the centre one Saturday to promote your club please contact:

Need any jobs doing? vinvolved Notts are looking for tasks for young people
vinvolved Nottinghamshire is looking to increase the number of young people volunteering in 2010 by increasing the number of one off opportunities for young people to get involved in. This is aimed at inspiring them to get involved in volunteering in a more permanent way.
We are therefore looking for projects that have jobs that need doing that a small group of young people could complete, with support, in a day or so.
These jobs can be almost anything but you will need to provide the materials, tools, support on the day and transport to and from the venue.
Here are some examples;
- General tidying of your grounds
- repair of fences or footpaths
- painting of a hall
- helping to set up for an event
- helping with a fund raising event
- leafleting and area
- doing a survey of local opinion
- extra bodies during a fund raising event
- creating a DVD of a project or issue
- designing of a basic website
If you have something appropriate and would be interest in getting some help, let us know and we will contact a group or groups in your area that have young people interest in helping out and we will go from there.
If you want a chat before hand then get back to us and we will arrange to come and see you and talk things through.

Back to fun, back to fitness, Back to Netball
Leisure Company NNCLL, in partnership with England Netball, is looking for women to hit the courts, have fun and get fit playing Netball at North Notts Community Arena.
Netball is played by one million women and girls a week in the UK, and is one of the most popular female team games in the world. However, as with numerous sports, many women who have played at school, college and University stop playing following education.
Back to Netball is a current England Netball initiative that is happening up and down the country providing a gentle introduction into the sport and is proving to be a great success. Netball is a great way to stay fit and healthy and just one hour can burn up to 660 kcal. Whether it is about rediscovering sporting abilities you forgot you had or about getting active again, these sessions cater for all abilities.
The North Notts Community Arena Back to Netball programme will provide non-competitive Netball for female players over sixteen years of age. Sessions are coach led and will cover basic skill development and court play. The emphasis of these sessions is on getting active, learning new skills and have fun playing Netball with friends.
North Notts Community Arena’s Operations Manager Darryl Layden said, "We are really pleased to be able to provide women with the opportunity to begin playing the basics of Netball again in a fun and social session").
The sessions are running weekly at the North Notts Community Arena on Tuesdays from 5.30pm – 6.30pm.
Sessions begin on 26 January 2010 and will cost £3.00.
For further information or to book, please contact the reception desk at the Arena on tel: 01909 480164.

Bondhay Golf Club Awarded ClubMark and GolfMark
Bondhay Golf Club has been awarded the prestigious GolfMark Award accreditation demonstrating their hard work and dedication to both junior and beginner golf. There are just over 200 golf clubs in England with the award, just 2 to date in Nottinghamshire and Bondhay being the only club in Worksop to achieve accreditation.
The English Golf Union (EGU) and English Women’s Golf Association (EWGA) developed the GolfMark Award to identify and acknowledge golf clubs in England that are junior and beginner friendly and are proactive in their attitude to golf development through the recruitment and retention of golfers.
The GolfMark accreditation also integrates Sport England’s ClubMark award, a generic national standard for quality sports clubs recognised across the country.
More than 20 other sports, including tennis and rugby are also using the alliance to add value to their accreditation schemes and over 5,000 sports clubs have been awarded ClubMark or are working towards it.
There are a number of benefits that golf clubs can gain by achieving GolfMark, including increasing membership, raising the club’s profile in the local community, further development of coaches and volunteers and greater access to funding.
Bondhay Golf Club launches new website
Bondhay Golf Club has launched a unique new website for junior golfers as part of its Academy programme.
The website offers a safe environment for juniors to go for information on coaching; competitions; fitness and nutritional tips; share experiences and be inspired to take part in golf. The site boasts a trendy design with fresh and relevant content – all aimed at improving the way golf is communicated to young players.
In addition, resources are available to parents and guardians including downloadable protection and welfare policies, plus information giving them the guidance to support and encourage the wellbeing and development of their child in a sport that can be played for a life time.
Mark Hardisty, Club Director said the launch of the Academy website is another sign of Bondhay Golf Club’s commitment to providing one of the region’s best facilities for young golfers: The internet is such an important communication tool for young people, and our site gives juniors and parents the ability to access to vital information and to keep up-to-date with our Academy programme and the world of golf in an engaging way.”

Design a website for your club
Many sites are available that allow clubs to design websites. They are fairly simple to operate and are based on a series of templates.
You can find out more about these websites in this document compiled by Brook Sport and Leisure [PDF 255KB] ![]()
