Nottinghamshire Sports Disability Unit

The Sports Disability Unit, a department within the Nottinghamshire County Council’s Sports Service, aims to develop, enable and provide opportunities for all disabled people in Nottinghamshire.

The team at the Unit works to:

  • Provide a grass roots development programme to raise Awareness and increase Participation through Opportunity and Coaching (APOC)
  • Provide competitive opportunity at all levels
  • Provide an annual School of Sport - a week of sport activities, workshops and social activities
  • Develop opportunities and pathways in priority sports of swimming, athletics, cricket, boccia, football, and gymnastics
  • Educate and raise awareness of inclusion with providers to create local opportunities
  • Support individuals, schools, colleges, day centres, coaches, clubs, and community groups
  • Support talented individuals to achieve their desired and potential level within sport
  • Provide an information service.

Paralympics GB name wheelchair tennis squad for Beijing Paralympics

Paralympics GB has now named the eight wheelchair tennis players set to represent Britain at this summer’s Paralympic Games in Beijing. These include David Phillipson from Nottinghamshire.

Martin sets a new world record!

Nottinghamshire athlete Chris Martin took part in the British Open Athletics Championships in Manchester on 7/8 June 2008. He threw 28.91 in the discus competition to beat the previous best of 28.73 in the F33 category.
