Congratulations to Newark & Sherwood award winners
On 12 November the second Newark and Sherwood sports review and awards evening took place at the Palace Theatre in Newark.
Organised by Newark and Sherwood District Council and sponsored by:

The event attracted an audience of 400 sportspeople and guests.
Awards were made in 10 categories covering the winter sports season 2006/2007 and the summer sports season 2007
Winners are as follows:

| Junior volunteer of the year | Amy Fearon (Gymnastics) |
| Junior disabled sportsperson of the year | Matthew Baines (Paddle-ability Canoeing) |
| Senior sportsperson of the year | Peter Mills (Badminton) |
| Senior team of the year | Newark Athletic Club senior track and field team |
| Coach of the year | Julie Lowe (disability sport) |
| Volunteer of the year | Shirley Grayson (swimming) |
| Club of the Year | Newark Swimming Club |
| Outstanding contribution to sport | Ted Harris (Football) |
The medal winning sides from the East Midlands Airport Nottinghamshire Youth Games were also recognised.
Winners and nominees from this event will be put through to the Nottinghamshire sports review of the year

Athletics Award Winners
The England Athletics East Midlands awards were held on Friday 19 October at the Hilton Hotel at East Midlands Airport. The event saw Nottinghamshire take an excellent 5 of a potential 15 awards.
Mike Beaumont – Athletics Development Officer at Nottinghamshire County Council said “What a fantastic night for Nottinghamshire athletics. Not only did we pick up a third of the awards but we also had an enormous number of nominations. This shows how strong the sport of athletics is in the county and that we have a great future. Best of luck to our winners at the national awards in December.”
Clubs, coaches, officials, athletes and volunteers across the region had the opportunity to nominate in any of the categories. These came in 5 main areas:

- volunteers
- club
