Volunteer Development Officer for 14-19s

Newark and Sherwood DC - Leisure & Cultural Services, Sports Development Unit

Terms: Full time post - Fixed term contract until December 2011
Salary: £19,621 - £20,858 pa

We are looking to appoint someone to the exciting and challenging role of Volunteer Development Officer. This project is delivered in partnership by a variety of partners including Sport England, Joseph Whitaker School Sports Partnership, Newark College, sports development team and local clubs.

You will report to the project steering group and will be responsible for recruiting, training, and mentoring hard to reach individuals aged 14-19 through a programme of sports leadership and coaching awards, promoting volunteering in the community and lifelong participation in sport and physical activity.

The role will utilise sport and physical activity workshops and courses to help improve the skills, behaviour, and attitude of young people, providing opportunities to gain qualifications and experience in sporting environments.

With at least two years experience of planning and delivering activity for young people, you will be self motivated, have achieved a Level 2 NGB Award and be an experienced Sports Leaders UK Tutor trainer. You will also have attended Emergency First and Child Protection/Safeguarding workshops in the last 3 years. In addition you will have experience and understanding of the causes of behavioural difficulties of young people as well as delivering projects in partnership.

The successful applicant will be expected to prepare reports for management and partners using IT skills in Microsoft Word, Publisher and Excel.

The post holder will also have:

  • The ability to plan, organise deliver and evaluate a wide variety of activities
  • The ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team with disadvantaged young people
  • The ability to motivate and enthuse young people, other people and volunteers
  • A flexible approach to working hours including evening and weekend work
  • An interest and commitment to the provision of volunteering opportunities in sport and physical activity for young people
  • To hold a current driving licence, for any disabled applicants, suitable alternative arrangements can be agreed, if necessary

School Sports Coordinator

We are looking to appoint a Schools Sports Co-ordinator with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) to work across the Selston Family of Schools. The successful candidate will work for 2 days/week on SSCO responsibilities and for 1 day/week at Selston Arts & Community College teaching across KS3 and KS4.

This post offers opportunities to work with a range of schools and staff to develop sporting opportunities for all young people.
