City of Nottingham library resources
Monday 16 July saw the launch of a new collection of books in the city which are dedicated solely to sports coaching. This was celebrated at Angel Row Library with a coaching session for local children of Huntingdon Primary School run by local coach and Paralympic athlete Richard Whitehead who is a coach on the highly successful Play Sport project which aims to develop fundamental sports skills in young children.”
The books have been provided by the City Council’s Sports Development team in partnership with Nottinghamshire County Council’s Sports Service and Active Sports in Nottinghamshire’s coaching development teams. This is a brand new project for the area and marks a new partnership between sports and the city libraries service.
This is the third library in the county to be housing books for this project. There are already resources in Retford Library in the north of the county and at Beeston Library in the south. Customers will be able to request these resources to be delivered to their local library. They do not have to visit the city to use them.
Denise Richards - Coaching Development Officer for Active Sports in Nottinghamshire said “We know coaching resources are quite difficult to come by and are often very expensive. This is a barrier to coaches developing their skills. I hope that coaches will accept our invitation to come and make use of this resource and suggest any new titles we can add. It is wonderful that we can pool resources with the City Council to provide such a useful tool for our coaches and also nice to work across departments with the Libraries Service. I hope we can collaborate on further coaching projects.”
More information on this project can be found in the Coaching Projects section
Coaches are now able to access coaching resource material from Libraries in the County. The first coaching section was opened at Retford Library on 30 June and the second collection will be available at Beeston Library on 27 October.
Don't worry if you don't live nearby. You can request any of the resources from your local library and have them delivered.
