Nottinghamshire Library Service

How do I join the library?

Membership is free to everyone.

You can join online or by visiting your nearest library.

When you join at a library you will need to take proof of your identity and address and fill in an application form.

Children and young people under 14 need to have the form signed by a parent or guardian.

You'll then be given your library card which you can use straight away.

If you have no official ID with you it is possible to complete a temporary registration form which will allow you to use the PCs and to borrow up to 6 items.

How many items can I take out for how long?

You may have up to 24 items on loan at any one time. Most items can be kept for 3 weeks.

All DVDs, videos and music CDs are 1 week loan only

If you need to keep an item a little longer it is usually possible to renew it. You can renew your items up to 4 times.

Libraries will also have reference books which can only be used in the library.

What if I can't get to the library to renew my books?

You don't have to visit the library to renew your items. Renewals can be made by

  • Telephone: Use your local library telephone number
  • Renewals Hotline: 0845 330 4435
  • Online: www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/nelib

What if an item isn't in my local library?

If an item isn't in your local library you can ask to place a hold by completing a card in the library or place a hold for an item online at www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/nelib

A charge may be made for this service.

If items are unavailable within the county we can get them from elsewhere in the UK. Please ask at your local library.
