Libraries project

Coaching resources     Children from the City's Huntingdon Primary School with the new resources for the library

Books for coaches to be rolled out across the county

The project is hoping to widen access to high quality and relevant sports coaching resources, i.e. manuals, DVDs and CD ROMs, to a varied mix of sports leaders throughout the county.

Active Sports in Nottinghamshire is working in partnership with Nottinghamshire County Council’s Libraries Archives and Information (LAAI) Service who have agreed to administer and monitor the new resources.

The project was launched at Retford Library and will be rolled out to other libraries in the county. The next library was Beeston in Broxtowe and this has recently been followed by Angel Row Library in the city of Nottingham.

The project will aid a wide variety of sports leaders, including anyone regularly leading sport or physical activity sessions regardless of location and the demographics of the group they are leading.

This is an entirely new project where the need was identified through anecdotal comments made to the Coaching Development Officer (CDO) from local coaches citing a distinct lack of coaching resources during the feedback sessions at three different coaching courses.

The new coaching sections for the selected libraries includes ideas for coaches in a wide variety of sports (e.g. cricket, swimming and basketball) as well as giving practical guidance on important aspects such as:

  • child protection
  • first aid
  • how to include disabled participants.
