Community Sports Coaches
A £857,469 lottery grant has been brought into the County to help fund a £1.7 million, 3 year project where 20 Community Sports Coaches have been employed to work in Nottinghamshire.
These coaches vary in their remit. Some are Multiskill coaches and some are sport-specific, but all are targeted with proportioning their work load to encompass:
Curriculum coaching
Here the coach works in primary schools during lesson time, mentoring the teacher to deliver quality activity sessions.
Extra curriculum coaching
As an extension of the curricular sessions, the coach will work with a teacher to run an after-school or lunchtime club. This is to encourage the children to take part in sport out of school hours and promote School/Club links.
Club setting coaching
Here the coach will work in a sport specific club (if the coach is multiskills then he/she will support sport-specific coaches).
Coaching in other community settings
One of the aims of the project is to increase participation in sport in as many different areas as possible. This section includes holiday schemes, youth clubs and play clubs.
In the last 6 months of the project:
- 36382 young people received coaching!
- 39% of those were female
- 3% were disabled
- 21% came from ethnic minorities.
